Pair of Third Period Goals Lifts Bulls over Tomahawks

Amarillo Bulls News Release

Blaine, MN - A pair of third period goals would be enough to give the Amarillo Bulls their first win of the season in the opening game of the 2019 NAHL Showcase, as they top the Johnstown Tomahawks 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

After dropping their opening game of the season in Topeka on Monday night, the Bull quickly erased those memories as Matt Allen found Brendan West for the opening goal of the game just 1:49 into the first period.

The Bulls would take the 1-0 lead into the intermission, having allowed very few opportunities for the Tomahawks to find open shooting lanes.

The second period began with another quick score by the Bulls, as Nick Trela fired a snap shot off the crossbar that bounced across the goal line to give Amarillo the 2-0 lead.

The Tomahawks would climb to within a goal after Noah Basarab would find the back of the net mid-way through the second period.

Five minutes later, Johnstown would level the score on a close-quartered goal by Carson Grainer, bring the score to 2-2, which the teams would take into the second intermission.

The third period began with a number of chances for both teams, before, at the 9:02 mark, Jordan Venegoni broke the deadlock with a low-angled shot that found the back of the net, giving the Bulls the 3-2 lead.

The Bulls would grow their lead to two goals when Matt Allen tucked home a Noah Carlin feed for the 4-2 advantage, the score that would hold until the final horn.

In his debut in goal for the Bulls, Ethan Lahmon, who was acquired during training camp in a trade with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

The Bulls return to action on Thursday when they faceoff with the Minot Minotauros at 1:00 PM CST on Day 2 of the 2019 NAHL Showcase. The game will be broadcast live on 107.1 Nash Icon and HockeyTV.
