Odessa Jackalopes News Release

BLAINE, MINNESOTA - It wasn't the start of the season the Jackalopes were hoping for, as Odessa (0-0-1-0) Fell to the Maine Nordiques (2-1-0-0) in overtime in their first game at the North American Hockey League Showcase 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, the Jackalopes got on the board first as Connor Lindsoe broke up a Maine dump-in attempt and fed one up to Jake Vaughn who came up with Aeden Drossos on a two-on-one.

Vaughn turned his back to the defender to coral the puck, which drew the Nordique to him, and then sent a crisp back-hand pass over to Drossos who sent an accurate wrist-shot over the shoulder of Connor Androlewicz. Drossos' first of the season gave Odessa a 1-0 lead, a lead which they took into the second intermission and into the third period.

In the third period, after a back-and-forth period, the Nordiqes were able to get on the board after a point-shot resulted in a goal-mouth scramble and Nordique forward Noah Kane was able to locate and score on the rebound.

Both goaltenders made several great saves, including Jackalopes netminder Aaron Randazzo, who made an initial save and then shifted from his right to his left to save the rebound attempt with his pad.

The game went to overtime with both teams 1-1, both teams had good chances but in the end it was the Nordiques who scored with one second remaining in OT to clinch the win. Though the Jacks fell in their first ever game against the Maine Nordiques, there was plenty of good to take away, including the play of Randazzo who was strong throughout the contest despite the loss.

The Jackalopes will look for their first win of the season on Thursday, as they play their second game of the showcase against the Northeast Generals. Puck-drop is set for 10:30 am.
