South Georgia Wildcats News Release

January 5, 2009, ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats are extremely excited to announce that the af2 league office has assigned Antwone Savage and Demetrie McCray to the Wildcats 2009 roster. Savage attended Westover High School in Albany before completing a stellar college career at the University of Oklahoma. Demetrie McCray has local ties as well, playing his college football at Albany State University.

Savage, a wide receiver, is entering his fifth year in the af2. Last season, back in a Wildcats uniform, he hauled in 76 passes for 977 yards and 32 touchdowns. In his four year career, Savage has posted some staggering numbers. For his career, he has 383 receptions totaling 4,279 yards and 123 touchdowns.

"I know Antwone was an important piece to this team last year and one of our priorities was to keep him at home in South Georgia," said head coach Rodney Blackshear. "I've coached against him in the past so I know that not only is he a great player, but he's a veteran leader that we want on our side."

McCray will bring the same play-making ability to the Wildcats defensive backfield. McCray is entering his 3rd season in the af2. After playing sparingly in 2006 and 2007, he exploded onto the scene last year as an Austin Wrangler. He led the Wranglers in tackles with 70 as well as interceptions with 9.

"Like Savage, McCray is an experienced playmaker that we can build our defense around," said head coach Rodney Blackshear. "When we first started talking, it was obvious Demetrie wanted to stay close to home and play in Albany and we're fortunate it worked out."

The Wildcats are hosting an open tryout Saturday January 10th at the Albany State practice field. Registration begins at 11 AM with the workout to start at Noon.
