Paint the Ice with the Tri-City Storm this Thursday for Storm Fights Cancer Weekend

Kearney, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm invites all fans to join players and coaches at the Viaero Center on Thursday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m. for its Paint the Ice event. Paint the Ice starts Storm Fights Cancer Weekend from Thursday through Saturday. The weekend also kicks off the Storm's third annual Jerseys for a Cause Program, which has raised $23,432 over the last two seasons.

This is the third year Tri-City has painted the ice to remember those affected by cancers. On Thursday, the Storm will provide anyone that comes to the building with paint brushes and paint. Tri-City asks all to write the names of those affected by cancer.

Tri-City follows up Paint the Ice with "Color Out Cancer" night on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m., presented by Midway Auto Dealerships, as well as "Concrete Cares Night at 7:05 p.m., presented by Kearney Concrete.

Numerous Storm players and coaches have also had family members affected by cancer over the years. Alex Limoges has spent the past few summers at a camp geared towards helping children with cancer. Storm alum Jaden Schwartz, currently a forward on the NHL's St. Louis Blues, lost his sister to cancer. Tory Dello, last season's Storm Captain, lost his mother.

"Painting the ice is a way for people in this area to connect with loved ones that have suffered from the disease and also a powerful symbol for people to see other families that have had their lives affected," said Dana Wright, the Storm's Vice President of Business Operations.

The Color Out Cancer game will be held on the painted ice against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The Storm will wear one-night-only jerseys available for auction after the game.

On Saturday, Tri-City plays Lincoln on Concrete Cares Night, presented by Kearney Concrete. For the second straight game, the Storm will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned after the contest.
