Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

KALISPELL, MT - The Missoula PaddleHeads squared off with the Glacier Range Riders on Friday night in the first ever meeting of the two franchises FlatHead Field. The night began with optimism in the first inning that saw Missoula jump on top in the frame by a score of 2-0. Despite the early jolt from the offense, Missoula would not be able to keep the early momentum alive.

After taking the early lead in the top of the first, Glacier would race back scoring 6 unanswered runs over the first four innings to take a 6-2 lead. Missoula was unable to land many counter punches the rest of the way being shutout in the final 4 innings of action in a 9-4 defeat.

Jayson Newman struck again for Missoula in the early going hitting a two-run blast to give the PaddleHeads an early lead. Newman has been the driving force of the Missoula attack in recent games having hit 4 homers in his last 3 games to go along with 9 RBIs. The Southern California native also currently leads the Pioneer League in home runs with 8. Newman would finish the game 1-for-3.

A four run rally from Glacier in the home half of the first immediately swung the momentum in favor of the Range Riders to make the score 4-2. A double from Dean Miller would kick off the scoring in the frame prior to a 2-run triple from Austin McNicholas which gave Glacier the lead.

An infield hit from Justin Mazzone would round out the scoring in the frame as the Range Riders added to a lead they would never relinquish. Miller would finish the night 2-for-5 with McNicholas finishing 1-for-2 with 3 walks.

Trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Kevin Whatley would tighten things up with a two run double into right center that scored Keaton Greenwalt, and Brenton Davis to make the score 6-4. That would be the last gasp for Missoula's offense however, who would not collect a single hit over the game's final 4 innings. Whatley finished the game 1-for-4.

Glacier would put the game on ice in the seventh scoring 3 runs to give the Range Rider's their largest lead of the night at 9-4. Runs would come in to score in the frame on a wild pitch, and 2 walks with the bases loaded. Missoula would only see one base runner reach over the final two innings of play..

Missoula (13-8) will have their focus on trying to even the series Saturday night opposite the Range Riders (9-13). First pitch from FlatHead Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Catch every pitch on ESPN Missoula 102.9 F.M.
