San Rafael Pacifics News Release

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - San Rafael Pacifics pitcher Logan Odom was dominant on the mound and his batterymate Matt Kavanaugh provided a spark at the plate en route to a 7-2 victory over the Vallejo Admirals, snapping a two-game Pacifics skid.

Odom threw 100 pitches over the course of eight innings and improved to 7-0. He lowered his ERA to a Pacific Associaton-best 1.70.

San Rafael (37-14) matched its entire run total entering the series in the third inning. Kavanaugh (2-for-3, two runs, three RBIs), who is hitting .294 in his last five games since returning to the Pacifics, started the rally with a base hit. Vallejo (17-22) pitcher Nicholas Flory (0-4) retired the next two batters but left fielder Chase Fontaine (2-for-4, one run, two RBIs, walk, stolen base) drove a double to right field and Kavanaugh beat the throw with a head-first slide at the plate. Then, right fielder Maikel Jova singled up the middle for his 50th RBI to make it 2-0.

Pacifics third baseman Kyle Dhanani (1-for-3, two runs, walk, stolen base) dove head-first into first base and reached on an error at short to begin the bottom of the fourth. Flory again retired the next pair of batters but the error proved costly. After Dhanani stole second, Kavanaugh took Flory deep on a 1-2 count for a two-run homer to right field that doubled the lead to 4-0. Center fielder Zack Pace walked on four straight pitches and scored on second baseman Price Kendall's RBI single. The RBI was Kendall's 51st, which also leads the Pacific Association. Kendall then scored on a Fontaine single, which chased Flory and gave the Pacifics a 6-0 lead.

A Kavanaugh sacrifice fly in the eighth made it 7-0. The Admirals finally got on the board in the ninth. Pacifics reliever Casey Russell served up a two-out, two-run home run to Vallejo second baseman Tillman Pugh but Russell recorded the final out to give San Rafael the last game of the three-game series.

San Rafael faces the East Bay Lumberjacks on Tuesday, July 30. It's Twofer Tuesday, where fans who walk up on gamenight will receive two tickets for the price of one (no coupon required). Former Pacific Steve Detwiler, who was traded to East Bay on July 25, is set to take the mound and against his former team. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
