SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The San Rafael Pacifics edged the Na Koa Ikaika Maui 2-1 on Tuesday night at Albert Park in a pitcher's duel. With the victory, the first-place Pacifics (22-6) created more space between the second-place Na Koa Ikaika (21-10) in the Pacific Association standings and extended the ball club's home win streak to 13 consecutive games.

The Pacifics' Tyler Pearson (5-1) had another strong outing for his fifth consecutive victory and lowered his ERA to 2.76. He went eight innings and struck out eight, giving him a team-high of 50 in 42.1 innings. Closer Colin Allen was tested, entering a game with a one-run lead for the first time this season. He battled back from a 3-0 count to the leadoff batter pitched a perfect ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.

"We're both battling for first place so it was a big win," said Allen. "Pearson set the tone and came out strong like he always does. That sets the tone for the bullpen and the batters too."

Maui's Chris Waters fell to 0-2 despite the Maui pitching staff holding the Pacifics to three hits. Both San Rafael runs came unearned in the third inning. With two outs, shortstop Danny Gonzalez reached first on an error to the right side of the infield that allowed both designated hitter Darrick Hale and right fielder Maikel Jova to score.

The Na Koa Ikaika staked an early 1-0 lead with left fielder Jeremy Williams' groundout that scored center fielder Waylen Sing-Chow.

Both teams meet again on Wednesday, July 3. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. The two teams play on Thursday, July 4 at 1:15 p.m. with a three-inning Vintage Baseball exhibition slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday, July 6, Japanese native Eri Yoshida, the first female to play professional baseball in two countries, will take the mound for Maui. All females are encouraged to come watch this inspirational woman pitch with $5 general admission tickets offered to all women on gameday at the Guarantee Mortgage ticket booth at Albert Park.
