SAN RAFAEL,Calif.- Erik Gonsalves (3-2) kept the Pacifics hitters at bay going eight innings, giving up six hits, and three earned runs as the Sonoma Stompers cruised to a 11-5 victory Saturday night. Pacifics starting pitcher Nick DeBarr (2 - 3) took the loss going three innings surrendering seven runs, six earned, on five hits and four walks.
The Stompers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in first inning on two stolen bases by Jayce Ray and a wild pitch by DeBarr. The Pacifics answered in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by Matt Kavanaugh to deep center field tying the game at 1-1. Kavanaugh collected two of the Pacifics seven hits going 2-4 with two RBIs. The tie would be short lived as the Stompers took the lead back in the third scoring one on a sac fly by Ray.
In the fourth inning the Stompers offense erupted for seven runs on five hits and an error pushing their lead to eight. After a leadoff single by Reid Chenworth, Manny Ramirez crushed a ball to left field for a two-run home run to start the scoring for the Stompers in the fourth. Chris Rice relieved DeBarr in the fourth, inheriting a bases loaded situation. With Rice in the Stompers pushed across five more runs on three hits to take a 9-1 lead.
The Stompers added to their lead in the sixth scoring one run on a single by pinch hitter T.J. Gavlik pushing their lead to nine.
Pacifics first baseman Johnny Woodard relieved Chris Rice in the seventh and tossed two scoreless innings giving up a hit and a walk. Shortstop Evan Boyd replace Woodard in the ninth and allowed two hits and a run on a Steve Rinaudo RBI single.
The Pacifics mounted a late ninth inning rally scoring four runs, two coming on Ryan Priddy's two run home run, but the Stompers lead was insurmountable as the Pacifics dropped the second game of the three game series 11-5.
The final game of the three game series between the San Rafael Pacifics and Sonoma Stompers is scheduled for at 1:05 P.M. at Albert Park.
