Pacifics Defeat Admirals to Lock up First Place Finish in 2013

VALLEJO, Calif. - The San Rafael Pacifics will play for another championship in just their second season of existence, after defeating the Vallejo Admirals, 8-2, and clinching first place in the Pacific Association on Wednesday night.

San Rafael starter, Kyle Devore, pitched seven inning as he earned the win - giving up just one earned run. The right hander walked one, while striking out six. J.J. Whetsel and Nate King pitched the final two frames in relief.

The Pacifics got the offense working early, scoring twice in the first inning courtesy of a two-run home run by Johnny Woodard (1 for 3, 2 runs, 2 RBI). Short stop Danny Gonzalez also homered, a solo shot in the second inning. Maikel Jova, Matt Kavanaugh, and Zack Pace all had RBIs for San Rafael.

With the win, the Pacifics guaranteed themselves a first place finish and a spot in the Pacific Association championship, to be held at Albert Park on Sunday, August 25. It will be the second straight championship game appearance made by the team, San Rafael won the North American League championship in 2012.
