Pacific FC News Release
Pacific FC's Ahmed Alghamdi has joined Saudi Arabia's U-20 National Team earlier this week. The 17-year-old midfielder joins the youth national side for a pair of friendlies against Tajikistan.
"We are extremely proud of Ahmed's recent call up to the Saudi U-20 National team," stated Pacific FC CEO Rob Friend. "We continue to support the development and growth of all our young players, and we know Ahmed has a very bright future ahead of him."
Alghamdi signed his first professional contract with Pacific FC only a few months before his high school graduation in Vancouver. Born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Alghamdi has grown up in Canada and joined the Vancouver Island outfit from Rinos Tigers SC in the VMSL.
"It's positive," commented Pacific FC head coach Michael Silberbauer. "He's developing fine, he's still very young, so a call up to a national team is positive and is a chance for him to get an experience. It shows everybody that the youth national team is not that far away. I hope that the youth national team is not the goal for these guys but to go onto something bigger."
Alghamdi scored on his debut in his first full start for Pacific FC at Westhills Stadium versus Cavalry FC on July 1st. The dual citizen has played a significant role in the season so far with a series of injuries to Pacific FC. Alghamdi is the youngest player in the side that has featured seven U-21 starters at times throughout the season.
Pacific FC (1-3-0) return to the road to face Valour FC (0-1-1), Wednesday July 31 at 5:00 p.m. PST.
