Atlético Ottawa spoiled the Canada Day festivities at Starlight Stadium Friday night, stopping league-leading Pacific FC's winning run with a gritty 2-2 draw on the road.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa held the current league leader Pacific FC to a 2-2 draw.

Ottawa took the early lead in the 19th minute on a stellar drive forward by Ollie Bassett, setting up teammate Sam Salter for a controlled ball slid past the keeper. This was Salter's 3rd goal of the season, his 17th all-time in the CPL.

Second-year Bahous had a solid defensive showing, collecting 4 interceptions on the night, 3 of them in the first half against a dangerous attacking side.

Pacific FC levelled the score seconds before the halftime whistle on a deflected corner kick and took the lead in the opening minutes of the second frame on another corner kick goal (49th minute).

Atlético striker Salter continued to cause trouble in the opposing zone and earned his side a kick from the penalty mark in the 52nd minute.

Midfielder Ollie Bassett added a converted PK to his earlier assist, his 5th goal of the season, his 15th since joining the league.

Bassett's 1 goal, 1 assist night also earned him a Performer of the Match nod from the OneSoccer broadcast crew.

Ottawa's mettle was tested until the very end; following a physical tackle on the border of the 18-yard box that resulted in Espejo being shown a red card, and a convincing stop on the penalty kick by GK Nathan Ingham, 10-men Atlético trusted its compact and proven defensive acuity to secure the point.

Ottawa was without the duo of striker Malcolm Shaw and defender Luke Singh, who are both away representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Gold Cup, as well as standouts Maxim Tissot and Gianni Dos Santos who were not part of the travelling party for this game.

Atlético Ottawa returns home to TD Place as they host Valour FC on Sunday, July 9th.

This will be Valour FC's first trip to Ottawa this season.
