Pacific FC Clinches Playoff Spot, Re-Signs Mukumbilwa

Langford, BC - Pacific FC secured a berth in the 2023 Canadian Premier League (CPL) playoffs earlier this week, earning enough points to ensure the Tridents will finish among the top five teams come the end of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 7
As Pacific continues its fight for top spot in the regular season table and prepares to battle for a place in the CPL Final, as well as a chance to be crowned playoff champion, next month, the club Is pleased to announce that it has re-signed fullback Georges Mukumbilwa (MUCK-UM-BILL-WAH) to a new deal for 2024, with a club option for 2025.
"Georges is incredibly humble in his work, he's a consistent and versatile player," said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. "He has great potential and is still developing, with his best football yet to come. I believe he's one of the most underrated fullbacks in the CPL."
Mukumbilwa, 23, joined Pacific last season, after playing youth soccer in the Vancouver Whitecaps academy from 2014. He signed a Major League Soccer Homegrown contract with Vancouver in 2019 and made his debut with the club in the final match of that campaign.
Standing 5-foot-11 inches, the right-footed Mukumbilwa has seen 1536 minutes of action this season, becoming a crucial part of the Tridents' back line. His speed, grit and ready smile have made him a key team member for Pacific. The personality he brings to the Tridents organization and in the locker room is his most important characteristic as a teammate, according to Merriman.
Pacific currently sits in second place in the CPL standings on 40 points. The squad will face Forge FC at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont. on Saturday at 4 p.m. PT, the final match of a three-game away trip that has already seen the Tridents tie at Atlético Ottawa and beat York United FC 4-1.
A Ferryside Derby against Vancouver FC on Saturday, September 30 will mark the last regular season home match for Pacific at Starlight Stadium. Pacific FC and Indigenous groups from across the region will come together that day to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The club will welcome representatives from local Indigenous communities and will hold a moment of silence as part of a pre-match ceremony on the pitch, to recognize the lasting impact of residential schools in our province and country and promote the spirit of healing and reconciliation.
