Potomac Nationals News Release
(WOODBRIDGE, VA) With a gripping 2-1 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash, the Potomac Nationals won the 2010 Mills Cup Championship. Behind a fantastic start from Marcos Frias and dominant bullpen pitching, the P-Nats secured their second Carolina League championship in three seasons.
Fittingly, Tyler Moore got the Nationals on the board in the first inning. Francisco Soriano led off the frame with a walk, and came in to score when Moore hit a two-out blooper down the left field line.
The Nats padded their lead in the fourth inning, and Soriano was again involved. He tripled down the right field line to begin the inning, and scored on a Bill Rhinehart groundout. Rhinehart was named the Series MVP.
The Dash - whose offense was stifled by Potomac pitching in the Finals - scored their only run because of an error in their half of the fourth. Joe Testa came on to pitch two and two thirds scoreless, and handed the ball to Zach Dials, who continued his dominant postseason and retired all four batters he faced to earn the clinching save.
Ozzie Lewis grounded out to Jose Lozada to end the game and induce a dogpile behind the mound.
Potomac earns its fourth title in franchise history with the four-game series win.
