Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Syracuse Crunch Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center 3-1 behind goals from Sean Kuraly, Jake DeBrusk and Frank Vatrano. Zane McIntyre got the start in net for a P-Bruins team taking on the North Division leading Crunch.
After a fairly even start to play, Providence jumped out to the 1-0 lead at 13:57 of the opening period. Chris Porter fought through traffic to deliver a centering pass to Kuraly, who beat Kristers Gudlevskis five-hole for his third goal of the season. AJ White picked up his first career AHL point with an assist on the play as the P-Bruins entered the first intermission with the lead.
Syracuse tied the game 7:24 into the second period after a Providence turnover behind the net. Mike Halmo stole the puck, skated to McIntyre's right and backhanded one past him for the unassisted goal. His eighth goal of the year made the score 1-1.
The P-Bruins responded at 12:43 of the period, as DeBrusk sent a wrist shot by Gudlevskis at the point for his fifth goal of the year. Matt Grzelcyk and Alex Grant picked up assists on the play as the Bruins entered the second intermission with a 2-1 lead. McIntyre refused to let the Crunch find the back of the net in the third and Vatrano added an empty net goal for his second of the year as the P-Bruins won 3-1.
McIntyre saved 25 of the 26 shots he faced while Gudlevskis stopped 32 of 34. Providence was 0 for 3 on the power play and 2 for 2 on the penalty kill. Providence kicks off a five-game road trip Wednesday in Utica when they face the Comets at 7 pm.
