P-Bruins Fall to Penguins 4-0

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Providence Bruins fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-0 Saturday evening. Niklas Svedberg made 25 saves in the losing effort. Game 6 will be back in Providence at the Dunkin' Donuts Center this Monday, May 20 at 7:05pm. The P-Bruins lead the best-of-seven series three-games-to-two.

The Penguins scored the only two goals of the opening frame, both while on the power play. Brian Dumoulin scored his first goal of the playoffs on a rebound after Brian Gibbons took a shot from the other side of the zone. Dumoulin's wrister clanked off of the crossbar and the far post before giving the home team a 1-0 lead.

Wilkes-Barre added a second power play goal while on a 5-on-3. At the tail end of an extended rush, Trevor Smith played a couple of rounds of catch with Riley Holzapfel on the right side of the zone, and Smith buried the puck to double his team's lead.

Neither team scored in the middle frame, though Providence had its best scoring chances. Despite having only 10 shots in the period, Providence beat Brad Thiessen once. Unfortunately, the puck never crossed the goal line on Ryan Spooner's shot that rolled off of the opposing goalie. The Penguins led 2-0 going into the second intermission.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton made it 3-0 at the 3:39 mark of the third period. Adam Payerl tallied his first goal of the post-season, while Dumoulin and Holzapfel picked up the assists. After a huge fight at the 14:37 mark, the Penguins went on the 5-on-3 advantage and scored their third power play goal of the night. Paul Thompson recorded his third goal of the playoffs, while Dumoulin and Smith picked up the assists. The goal came at the 16:44 mark. Immediately after the goal was scored another large fight ensued. In all 117 penalty minutes were assessed in the game, 55 to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 62 to the P-Bruins.

The P-Bruins went 0-for-5 on the power play, while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 3-for-11 on the man advantage. Thiessen made 30 saves in the win.

Game 6 will be at the Dunkin Donuts Center this Monday, May 20 for a 7:05 puck drop. Providence Bruins playoffs are presented by Dunkin' Donuts.
