
P-Bruins drop playoff opener to Portland

The Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates played the first game of their best-of-three Calder Cup Playoffs series on Thursday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, with the Pirates taking a 7-1 decision. The winner of the series will move on to face the Hartford Wolf Pack in the best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semifinals.
Bruin center Brett Nowak scored the Black and Gold's lone goal in his first professional playoff game. Rookie defenseman Milan Jurcina had the lone assist. Goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 12 of the 17 shots he faced before being relieved by Peter Hamerlik at 6:04 of the second period.
The Bruins and Pirates will play Game 2 on Friday, April 16 at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. If the Bruins win and force the deciding Game 3, it will be played in Providence on Sunday, April 18 at 4:05 p.m. Tickets are available at all TicketMaster outlets (401-331-2211 or 508/617-931-2000) and the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence box office.
