Providence Bruins News Release
Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-2 Friday evening at the Hartford Civic Center in the second game of this best-of-seven First Round Calder Cup Playoff series. The series is now tied at one. The P-Bruins got goals from Sean Curry, Sean Bentivoglio, Pascal Pelletier and Nate DiCasmirro.
The P-Bruins got on the board at the 7:55 mark with an even strength goal. Dennis Packard carried the puck into the zone and dropped it off behind the net for David Krejci. He passed it to Curry, who was alone at the top of the right face off circle. With traffic in front of the net Curry sent the puck top self past Wolf Pack net minder Al Montoya to give Providence a 1-0 lead. Later in the opening period the P-Bruins went on a 5-on-3 power play. Krejci from below the left face off circle sent the puck to Ryan Glenn at the top of the circles. He took a shot and the puck was redirected into the net by Bentivoglio. Providence went into the first intermission leading 2-0.
In the second period, Hartford pulled within a goal at the 6:05 mark. Hugh Jessiman tossed the puck towards the P-Bruins net and it went off the back of Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen and into the net. The goal was unassisted. Providence retook a two goal advantage at the 18:10 mark. While on the power play, Curry took a shot from the blue line and the puck went off the body of Pelletier and into the Wolf Pack net. Jay Leach recorded the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the second intermission leading 3-1.
In the third period, Hartford once again moved within a goal at the 12:54 mark on a tic-tac-toe play. Alex Bourret carried the puck into the zone and passed it to Jarkko Immonen at the right face off circle. He quickly shuffled the puck to Nigel Dawes, who waited back door and batted it into the P-Bruins net. With time running out, Providence added an empty net goal at the 19:39 mark from DiCasmirro. Krejci picked up his third assist of the evening and Leach his second as the P-Bruins held on for the 4-2 victory.
Toivonen stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Montoya made 11 saves for the Wolf Pack. Providence was 2 for 5 on the power play, while Hartford went 0 for 5 on the man-advantage.
