Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars President John Pettit today announced that the Iowa Stars and Classic BMW Racing of Plano, Texas will partner for Saturday's Grand Am Cup/Koni Challenge at the brand new Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.
The Iowa Stars logo will adorn the Number 86 car owned by Dallas-area resident and Classic BMW President and General Manager, Eric Maas. Maas, an avid Dallas Stars fan, and his Number 86 BMW Z4 have a qualifier for the Koni ST at 10:30 AM on Saturday. The Koni ST race will begin at 12:15 PM. Toby Grahovec and Pierre Kleinubing are the team's drivers. Classic BMW Racing began with the purchase of a vintage BMW 2002 that was mildly prepared for racing. It has evolved into a 3 car garage that houses a 2 time SCCA National Champion BMW Z4 and this year's USTCC runner-up BMW 330i.
According to the Iowa Speedway website, star of the popular television series "Grey's Anatomy", Patrick Dempsey, has also committed to participate in the event.
With cars that go straight from the showroom to the track, the Grand-Am Cup Series is racing in its most recognizable form - with everyday cars. The high-performance Sports Cars, Coupes and Sedans in the Series are modified for safety, so fans can see what a professional driver can do in a car they themselves might own.
