
P-Bruins Defeat Pirates 7-2

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Portland Pirates 7-2 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Brad Marchand, Adam McQuaid, Kirk MacDonald and two goals each from Vladimir Sobotka and Andy Wozniewski. The P-Bruins next home game is Friday, October 23 at 7:05 p.m. for Tote Bag Night against the Worcester Sharks.
Portland took a 1-0 lead at the 3:00 mark of the opening period. Cody McCormick tallied his second goal of the season, while Felix Schutz and Philip Gogulla recorded the assists. The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 4:28 mark. Zach Hamill held the puck in the corner and tossed it in front of the net to Marchand. He found Sobotka open backdoor, who netted his third goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 7:40 mark, while on the power play. Wozniewski held the puck at the right point and found Trent Whitfield in front of the net. He fed the puck to Marchand, who scored his sixth goal of the season. The P-Bruins made it 3-1 at the 14:08 mark, while on the power play. Alain Goulet had the puck at the right point and worked it to Sobotka along the right boards. He sent the puck to the left face off circle for Wozniewski, who tallied his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 3-1.
Providence took a 4-1 lead at the 15:12 mark of the second period. Sobotka battled for the puck behind the net and kicked it up the boards to Hamill. He found McQuaid at the left point, who blasted the puck into the net for his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins went ahead 5-1 at the 19:51 mark. Mikko Lehtonen held the puck along the left boards and passed it to Jeff Penner along the near boards. He found Wozniewski at the right point, who scored his fourth goal of the season and second of the game. Providence led 5-1 after two periods.
The P-Bruins made the score 6-1 only nine seconds into the third period. McQuaid stole the puck and fed Sobotka, who scored from the slot, his fourth goal of the season and third goal of the game. Portland cut the lead to 6-2 at the 9:52 mark, while on the power play. Tyler Ennis netted his fourth goal of the season, with Mark Mancari picking up the lone assist. Providence finished the scoring with a power play goal at the 18:22 mark. Wozniewski had the puck at the blue line and left it for Drew Larman at the left point. He passed it off to MacDonald who skated towards the net and tallied his second goal of the season. The P-Bruins went on to the 7-2 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 23 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jhonas Enroth made 19 saves and Jean-Philippe Lamoureux made 12 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 4-for-10 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins are back at The Dunk Friday, October 23 at 7:05 p.m. for Tote Bag Night against the Sharks.
