Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- The Owls took a brief lead early, but the Hi-Toms scored the runs that mattered late in the game. Thomasville handed Forest City just its second loss at McNair Field all season, 3-2 on Saturday night. The Owls have dropped back-to-back games for just the second time this year, and the first time since losing the first two games of 2012.

Robby Assemany accounted for both of the Owls' runs. The USC-Aiken product lined a two-out single to left field, scoring Ryan Welke to give Forest City a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Leading off the 5th, Assemany bashed his first home run of the season over the mini-Monster in left field to make it 2-0 Owls.

Kyle Brandenburg cut the lead in half in the top of the 6th inning with a solo homer, also over the mini-Monster, his second of the season. The Hi-Toms tied the game the very next inning when Jake Overbey drove home Kyle Gibson after Gibson tripled down the right-field line. Owls' starter Nick Lomascolo managed to get out of the 7th inning without giving up the go-ahead run, but gave way to Ryan Hander in the 8th.

Hander surrendered two walks and a base hit to load the bases in his first relief appearance of the year. Greg Harrison then knocked in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Drew Reynolds took over for Hander and got a double play to end the inning, but the damage had been done. Robby McIntosh threw three innings of relief to get his second win. He escaped a jam with runners on first and second and one out in the bottom of the 9th to secure the victory for Thomasville.

Tomorrow, the Owls wrap up the home-and-home series against the Hi-Toms in Thomasville with a 5:00 PM start. Forest City takes on its first team from the Eastern Division, the Morehead City Marlins, on Monday night at McNair Field. It will be a Mighty Dollar Monday game with select concession items available for just a dollar. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
