(Peterborough, ON) - The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday that they have recalled forward Owen Beck on an emergency basis.

Beck will make his National Hockey League (NHL) debut when the Canadiens visit the rival Ottawa Senators at 7:00pm on Saturday. The Hockey Night in Canada primetime game will be broadcast on CBC and Sportsnet.

"On behalf of the Petes, I'd like to congratulate Owen on reaching this career milestone," noted Petes General Manager Mike Oke. "Since joining the Petes earlier this season, Owen has shown continued progress toward his goal of playing in the National Hockey League."

"This opportunity speaks not only to Owen's work ethic, but also to the dedication of Petes coaches and development staff, as well as James Richmond, Jeff Kyrzakos, and the entire Mississauga Steelheads organization, where Owen started his OHL career," continued Oke.

Beck, a 2004-born centre from Port Hope, ON, was selected in the second round, 33rd overall, by the Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He recently captured a gold medal with Team Canada, alongside new Petes teammate Brennan Othmann, at the 2023 World Junior Championships in Halifax.

On October 4, 2022, Beck was signed by the Canadiens to an NHL entry level contract. Standing at 6'0", 190lbs, he was originally selected by Mississauga in the second round, 29th overall, in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection out of the Quinte Red Devils, the same team as current Petes defenceman Donovan McCoy. Beck has scored 19 goals and 35 assists in 37 games played this season.

Beck continues in the long tradition of Petes to have gone on careers with the Canadiens, notably including names like Bob Gainey, Doug Jarvis, Mickey Redmond, Eric Staal, and Luke Richardson

The Petes will be back in action on Sunday, January 29, when they host the Hamilton Bulldogs at the PMC for Billet Appreciation Day. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 PM. Tickets can be purchased, or by contacting the PMC Grant Thornton Box Office in person or at (705) 743-3561.
