Watertown Privateers News Release
The 1000 Islands Privateers kept the ship afloat tonight against a tough Danville crew at home, winning in a thrilling overtime victory 4-3. Despite the win, they could not make up ground on league leading New Jersey.
Jeff Winchester was the lone scorer for the Privateers in the 1st period, netting on a power play goal at 3:19 (Paul Kelly, Brad Smulders). The remainder was comprised of strong back and forth hockey, along with fighting majors and incidental bench minors.
1000 Islands took advantage of the 2nd period early, as Michael Byrd scored off help from Corey Laurysen and Justin Levac for a 2-0 lead. Both clubs battled through much of the period until Danville narrowed the margin at 18:01 with a goal from Ryan Stern (Ky Moje, Igor Batora), leaving the scoreat 2-1.
The Privateers went to work early in the 3rd as Wincester got his 2nd of the night at 1:20 (Byrd, Levac) to go 3-1. However, Danville fought hard and eventually clipped the lead to 1 with Moje netting at 12:02 (Kinoon Han, Batora). Dean Yakura tied the game at 17:18 on a power play goal (Stern, Dimitrios Chiropoulos) to tie at 3 a piece and send the contest to overtime.
As the overtime session neared the 4 minute mark, Privateer Adam McAllister made a diving tip in off a Brian Marks pass at 3:39 or the win.
The Privateers host the next two games on their schedule, starting with a Friday night contest against the Delaware Federals. The puck drops at 7:05 PM at the Bonnie Castle Rec Center in Alex Bay.
