Uncasville, CT - Last week's overseas play was kicked off by Dijonai Carrington and her eighth-ranked Elitzur Tel Aviv team as they played Isreali league adversary, Ashdod. Ashdod, fifth in league standings, defeated Elitzur Tel Aviv, 70-66. Carrington had an incredible stat line, leading all scorers with a double-double effort of 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Jonquel Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg opened the week's play with an extremely exciting and close EuroLeague game against second-ranked Perfumerias Avenida. UMMC Ekaterinberg held on with a 110-102 victory and improved their record to 7-0 behind Jonquel Jones' stat line of 27 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Building off of the excitement from the close match-up, UMMC Ekaterinburg defeated fourth-place Russian League opponent, Nika, 108-65 behind a 26-point performance from Jones. Nine rebounds, five assists and a block rounded out her stat line. UMMC Ekaterinburg, although undefeated on the season, is second in Russian League standings, due to having played less league games than undefeated Russian League counterpart, Dynamo Kursk.
Natisha Hiedeman and her Nadezhda squad lost a close game to the second-ranked team in EuroCup Group E play, Olympiacos S.F.P., 84-81. Hiedeman had 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal in the match. Nadezhda remains first in Group E standings, despite sharing the same amount of points (11) as Olympiacos S.F.P. Their second match-up of the week proved equally disappointing as Nadezhda fell to third-ranked Russian League opponent MBA Moscow in a 76-63 defeat. Hiedeman had 11 points, three rebounds and two assists on the night.
Beatrice Mompremier and her Uni Gyor team faced off against ACS Sepsi-SIC. ACS Sepsi-SIC is first-ranked in EuroCup Group B play and beat Uni Gyor, 73-69. Mompremier had 18 points, 27 rebounds, six assists and a block in the match. Uni Gyor is third in Group B play after five games.
Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and ZVVZ USK Praha defeated seventh-ranked team in Group A of EuroLeague standings, Umana Reyer, 88-53. This win improved ZVVZ USK Praha's record to 5-2, keeping them second in Group A play behind UMMC Ekaterinburg. Thomas had five points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, one steal in the win. B. Jones also had a spectacular double-double performance with 27 points, 16 rebounds and two steals. Later in the week, ZVVZ USK Praha met fourth-ranked Czech League opponent Slavia. ZVVZ USK Praha crushed Slavia, 113-33. Thomas had nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals, and B. Jones had 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals in the effort.
Stephanie Jones and Gorzow squared off against the first-ranked in Group C team, CBK Mersin. Gorzow lost 75-68, keeping them at the bottom of the Group C standings in fourth place. S. Jones had 14 points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal in 16 minutes of play.
Briann January and Sopron played sixth-place EuroLeague opponent, Basket Landes. Sopron beat Basket Landes, 76-54, to improve their record to 5-2, keeping them at the top of the EuroLeague Group B standings. January had 12 points, four assists and one steal. Sopron returned to play later in the week in a 61-56 win against Hungarian League opponent, Miskolc. January had five assists and two rebounds in the effort.
Kaila Charles and Dynamo Novosibirsk fell to top-ranked Dynamo Kursk in Russian League play, 96-85. Charles led her team with an impressive stat line and a double-double of 26 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and five steals. Dynamo Novosibirsk is now eighth place in Russian League standings.
Jasmine Thomas and Fenerbahce handily beat ninth-place Turkish League opponent, Antalya, 92-38. J. Thomas had 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. The win improved Fenerbahce's record to 7-0 and kept them first in Turkish League standings.
Connecticut Sun overseas players will return to action starting with Mompremier and Carrington playing today. Hiedeman and Nadezhda will face Charles and Dynamo Novosibirsk on December 7th. J. Jones and UMMC Ekaterinburg will play EuroLeague opponent TTT Riga @ 9:00 A.M. EST; and A. Thomas, B. Jones and ZVVZ USK Praha will play EuroLeague adversary Basket Lattes @ 1:00 P.M. EST on December 8th. J. Jones, S. Jones, Mompremier and Thomas have games on December 11th; and Charles, Hiedeman, A. Thomas, B. Jones, and January will round out the week's games on December 12th.
