Rockford Lightning News Release
Two Rockford Lightning players from the 2004-05 season are packing their bags and heading to foreign soil. Marshall Phillips has signed to play for Eurorida Scafati of the Italian League while Brant Bailey has signed on with the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian League.
"These two guys really played great for the Lightning," said Lightning Coach Chris Daleo. "They are loyal and hardworking, I hope to have them play for me again."
Phillips played in 40 games last year for the Bolts. The 6-foot-6 All-Star averaged 19 points per game and averaged 41 percent from the three-point arc.
"My best years in the CBA were in Rockford. I put up some solid numbers and that helped me land this job," said Phillips. "I am going to Italy but Rockford will always be home."
Brant Bailey has signed with the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian League. The 6'7 Wisconsin Stevens Point graduate and former Lightning free agent camper played in 35 games for the Lightning, averaged 17 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field.
"The Lightning allowed me to showcase my skills," said Bailey. "I hope to come back to the Lightning when my season in Australia is done."
The seasons for both of these players begin immediately. Both may return to the Lightning in January. The next Lightning free agent camp is Saturday August 27. The CBA Draft is Tuesday September 20th. Lightning season tickets are now on sale. Information on these players or on upcoming Lightning events can be obtained by calling the Lightning office at 815-874-4232.
