WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas City Royals and Major League Baseball's #1 Overall Pick in the 2006 Draft will get the start tonight in Game 4 for the Wichita Wranglers.
The Wranglers now feature the Royals top selection from each of the last five drafts. The Wranglers also have six of the Royals past seven first-round picks since 2002. A total of eight first-round picks are on Wichita's roster.
In four games started for Single-A Burlington, Hochevar pitched 15.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Hochever left Burlington going 0-1, with a 1.17 ERA. He struck out 16 batters and only walked 2.
Before Hochevar was drafted by the Royals, he pitched for the Ft. Worth Cats of the American Association of Independent Baseball. He went 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched with the Cats. Hochevar allowed 7 Runs, 6 earned, and struck out 34 batters while walking 11.
Hochevar is the fourth number one overall pick in the last 20 years to sign a Major League contract, joining Delmon Young (2003), Pat Burrell (1998) and Alex Rodriguez (1993).
