Outlaws win third straight, reach .500 mark

(Mason City, IA) The North Iowa Outlaws claimed their third consecutive win, defeating the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, 3-1 Thursday night at the North Iowa Ice Arena. The victory marked the third straight for North Iowa, elevating the team's record to 8-8-0 on the season.

Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ontario, Canada) scored twice for the Outlaws, including an empty net goal with 56 seconds remaining, to clinch the win. Patrick Dynan (Maple Plain, MN) netted his team-leading 14th goal of the year in the opening period, on assists from McLeod and Matt Morin (Brooklyn Park, MN). Dynan's score was one of two goals the Outlaws scored on the power play. McLeod's first goal of the game also came on the power play. Dynan and Cody Mosbeck (Emo, Ontario, Canada) collected assists. Joe Shean narrowed the Outlaws' lead to 2-1 with under three minutes to play, before McLeod's empty net score. The final Outlaws' goal was set up on passes from Morin and Chris Mackay (Missouri City, TX).

Eric Largen (Fairbanks, AK) won the goaltender's duel with the Ice Dogs' Bryce Christianson. Largen recorded 33 saves between the pipes for the Outlaws. Christianson notched 21 saves.

The Outlaws overcame 43 minutes in penalties, to gain the win. North Iowa's penalty kill was again effective, Fairbanks failed to score in 12 power play opportunities. Coming into the game, North Iowa was statistically ranked at the top in penalty kill percentage in the North American Hockey League, with Fairbanks ranked second, right behind the Outlaws.

The two teams play again Friday evening, October 29th. Game time is set for 7:45 PM at the North Iowa Ice Arena in Mason City.
