(Wichita Falls, TX) The Santa Fe Roadrunners (6-5-1) made a statement tonight at the Kay Yeager Coliseum as they outlasted the Wichita Falls Wildcats 3-2. Soon to be called the Santa Fe Road Warriors, the Roadrunners continue to impress on the road with this defeat of the Wildcats. With the win, they now increase their road record to an impressive 5-1-1.
The game did not start out in the Roadrunners favor as 17 seconds into the first period Adam Cardwell hit the mark startling the Roadrunners. Or maybe it woke them up. As the period progressed Santa Fe began to find their legs. Rookie David Solway, notched his second of the season scoring at the 8:43 mark with helpers from rookie defenseman Tony Beck and Captain Brandon Vossberg. A minute and a half later, rookie Brett Coley scores his second of the season and gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead. Brant Marple and Anthony Bohn collected the assists.
In the second period, the Wildcats evened the score at 15:40 when Jordan Novak beat Roadrunner goaltender Chris Carlson. Two minutes later, Roadrunners regain the lead on the lone power play goal of the game. Eric Bigham netted his fourth of the season as he was set up nicely by Rafael Rodriguez and Brandon Vossberg- his second assist in the game.
From that point on it became the Chris Carlson and Roadrunner penalty killing show as outstanding timely saves and great penalty killing paved the way to the big win. The Roadrunners killed off another 8 disadvantages tonight including two crucial kills in the last five minutes of the third period. Wichita Falls was 0-8 while Santa Fe was 1 for 5. This impressive penalty killing string has vaulted the Roadrunners penalty killing percentage to an impressive 90.16%, which ranks second in the 20 team NAHL leaving them only behind North Iowa in the penalty killing department.
