Harcharik Commits to Division I School

Mason City (IA) The North Iowa Outlaws Junior A hockey team is proud to announce that Joe Harcharik has committed to play collegiate hockey at Division I Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania beginning in the Fall of 2009. A native of Johnston, IA, Harcharik is the Outlaws all time leader in career goals scored (68) and career points (151) as he is the lone remaining player from the franchise's first season in 2005-2006.

Harcharik joined the Outlaws' the final month of the 2005-2006 season and has played in more games than all other players in the team's history.

This past season, Harcharik had 17 goals and 34 assists for 51 points. He added three assists in the Outlaws' first round playoff series loss to Owatonna earlier this month.

"Everyone who plays in the NAHL dreams of going to a strong college hockey program and for me that dream is coming true" said Harcharik. "I want to thank the Outlaws' organization and all the coaches I've had include Dave (Boitz), Jeff (Crouse) and Garrett (Strot) for helping me improve my skills and get this opportunity.

Robert Morris will be a new member of the Atlantic Hockey Conference next season and are coached by Derek Schooley. The program has only been around since the 2004-2005 season.

Harcharik is the five member of the Outlaws' current roster to commit to a collegiate program joining Dan Durham (Air Force), Anthony Raiola (U-MASS), John O'Neill (Duluth) and Brandon Brodhag (Merrimack).

Brodhag, along with the rest of the Outlaws, are currently preparing for the 2009 USA Junior A Hockey National Tournament which will be played in Mason City April 28-May 3. Even though the Outlaws were eliminated from the playoffs after the first round the team earns an automatic berth into the tournament because they are hosting the event.

The North Iowa Outlaws Hockey Club is in its fourth season as members of the North American Hockey League. The NAHL is the nation's largest Junior A hockey league and is now in its 33nd year of operation. For more information, visit northiowaoutlaws.com or call (641) 424-5468.
