Chico Outlaws News Release

The match-up between the Golden Baseball League's top two teams lived up to the billing as Outlaws edged the Flyers 7-6 at Nettleton Stadium in Chico. The win moved Chico into first place, a half-game ahead of the Flyers.

Todd Gossage smacked the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 7th inning, scoring Daniel Nava from second as the Outlaws scored four runs off Orange County reliever Gary Gallegos.

Chico extended its winning streak to a club-record eight games and snapped Orange County's win streak at seven. The Outlaws rebounded from back-to-back home runs by Peanut Williams and Scott Goodman with two outs in the 5th inning off starter Jake McKinley.

Jesse Kovacs continued to mash the ball, going 2-for-2 with a solo home run to lead off the 4th inning and an RBI double in the 7th. Kovacs is 8-for-14 with 7 RBIs on this home stand. Leadoff hitter Steve Boggs extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 2-for-5 night.

Rich Pohle continued to give Outlaws pitchers trouble, finishing the night 3-for-5 and is 10-for-14 against the Outlaws this year with four doubles. Peanut Williams is 6-for-10 against the Outlaws with 4 runs and 4 RBIs so far this season.

Jake McLintock, John Segovia and Todd Gelatka pitched scoreless 7th, 8th and 9th innings to take the opening game of the series. McLintock earned his first win of the season and Todd Gelatka shut the Flyers down in the 9th for his league-leading seventh save.

Outlaws second baseman David Pierson cut two Flyers runners down at the plate in the game, one on a relay throw from right fielder Nava and the other on a high chopper to the right side of the infield.

The teams face off again Friday night and fans can expect more fireworks than those after the game as the league's top two strikeout pitchers take the mound - Reed Dickert (2-1, 4.03 ERA) for Orange County and Nick Singleton (1-1, 4.50 ERA) for the Outlaws. First pitch is at 7:05 and post-game fireworks are sponsored by Enloe Medical Center on Aloha Friday.
