Orange County Flyers News Release
Flyers In Battle For 1st Place With 17 games left in the first half, the Flyers find themselves 1/2 a game behind the league-leading Chico Outlaws.
The Flyers are in Chico this weekend for three more games (Chico took game 1, 7 to 6 last night). Overall, the two teams will play one another 5 more times before the first half ends, so each game is critical in determining the winner of the first half.
With Peanut on Top Going into tonight's game, 2006 GBL MVP Peanut Williams, playing first base again for the Flyers, is leading the league with a .375 batting average.
After hitting a 3 run home run last night in Chico, Peanut hopes to continue his hot hitting, which could bring the Flyers back home in first place.
Aaron Davis (.354) and Mark Okano (.352) are also in the top 5 in the GBL in average. Flyers Home on the 4th! The Flyers return from a season-long 9 game road trip on July 4th.
First pitch on the 4th is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
July 4th is American Heritage Night, with fans encouraged to come to the ballpark dressed in their best patriotic attire. We will have fun, block party-type activities throughout the game, and will be done in plenty of time for you to get to your neighborhood fireworks show!
On the 5th, we will celebrate our Country's birthday with a spectacular FLYERWORKS show (if you were here on Opening Night, you know how awesome this show is!). The show on the 5th is presented by our partners at AutoNation! Elvis Is In The Building That's right, Elvis will be here on Friday, July 6th! He will entertain during the game, and then do some of his favorite tunes after! Get your tickets now for this great event, and celebrate 50's and 60's night with us in style!
Dress in your old 50's and 60's attire, and get discounts on several merchandise and food items! RUDY NIGHT on the 7th! One of the greatest sports movies of all time was the movie RUDY! The underdog story of Rudy Ruettiger inspired millions, and his life continues to inspire all over the world!
On Saturday, July 7, Rudy himself will be in attendance to throw out the first pitch, meet the fans, and talk about his life story! Don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Rudy, and to hear his story. It is truly remarkable.
Also, be the first to sample Rudy Revolution, his new sports drink. The Flyers will be the first sports team in America to be drinking Rudy Revolution, and you could be the first fans, as well! Give Blood - Watch Baseball Enough of the "going to a Flyers game is like giving blood" jokes! We have heard that one for the past two seasons!
Seriously, though, we will have the American Red Cross on hand on July 16, and if you give blood that day prior to the game, you will receive 4 free tickets to the game, and 4 free hot dogs and sodas, as well. There will also be some special treats for all that donate! Band from TV Night You have been hearing about this concert for months! That's right, our co-owner, James Denton, is in a band with Hugh Laurie from the TV show "House", Greg Grunberg from "Heroes", Bob Guiney from "The Bachelor", and many others.
On Saturday night, July 21, you will have the opportunity to be the first audience to hear them perform in a stadium! They do many shows, gigs, etc., but this is their very first "stadium gig", and the guys are pumped!
If you purchase a ticket to that night's Flyers game, then you can get a ticket to the concert for $5. If you just want to see the concert, then tickets are $20 at the gate. Come for the baseball game; support the Flyers, and then enjoy the great concert! Smart Money on Denton XTRA Sports AM 570 presents...
Months ago, LA Times Sportswriter/Sports Radio Talk Show Host TJ Simers had James Denton on the air and they started talking smack about whether or not James could hit a baseball pitched by Simers.
This has turned into a nationally recognized event, and on Sunday, July 22, Simers will take the mound and throw to Denton.
It will be one at bat...if Simers gets Denton out, then James donates $1,000 to the Mattel Children's Hospital in LA. However, should Denton get a hit (smart money), then TJ makes the donation.
Corporations are coming out of the woodwork to be a part of this event, and the Flyers are hoping to get over $25,000 in donations to the Mattel Children's Hospital as a result of this event. If you are interested in being on the field during this at bat, and in the suite with Denton and Simers during the Flyers game, call us today and make your donation of $500 or more.
You can also win tickets to this event by listening to AM 570 XTRA Sports radio between now and July 22. They will be giving away 570 tickets to the game!
