Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO- The Chico Outlaws welcomed the first-place Edmonton Capitals to Nettleton Stadium Sunday night. The game marks the opening of a marathon nine game series between the two teams. The Outlaws looked to stay hot after taking four of six from the Lake County Fielders.

Chico sent Jason Stevenson (3-0) to the mound who is on a hot streak of his own; in his two games with the Outlaws, he is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA. Facing the league's best hitting team; he earned his third straight win, pitching 7.1 innings and giving up three unearned runs on just five hits.

The visitors got off to a quick start. After a single by lead-off man Jamie McGraw and an error by Jason Stevenson to allow McGraw to take third base, Todd Linden hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield for the first run of the game.

The Outlaws struck back in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Lead-off hitter Jay Pecci lined a double down the right field line before Bobby Hill singled him to pick up his 21st RBI of the season. Hill would later come in to score on a ground out off the bat off Chris Lubanski to give the Outlaws the lead.

Chico added an unearned run in the fourth inning to give starter Jason Stevenson a little breathing room. Adam Buschini reached base on an error by the Capitals first baseman. Buschini would later score on Kurt Steinhauer's second hit of the ballgame; a double to deep right-center field.

The Outlaws continued their string of consecutive scoring innings in the sixth inning. Brian McFall started off the inning by hitting his second homerun in as many days. Later, Steinhauer would come around to score on a Jay Pecci sacrifice fly after his second double of the day to put the Outlaws up 6-1.

Edmonton made it a game again in the top of the eighth inning. With runners on second and third, Matt Rogelstad hit a single to score both runners and force Jason Stevenson from the game. Later, in the ninth inning, the Capitals put together a furious rally. With two runs already scored in the inning, making it a 6-5 game, Todd Linden stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and the game on the line. With the pressure on, Outlaws pitcher Travis Kane would force Linden to ground out to second to end the game while picking up his first save of the season.

The Outlaws will now look forward to tomorrow as the team will put on their annual fireworks extravaganza. A sellout crowd will be on hand tomorrow to witness the fireworks display, celebrating our America's Independence Day. If you plan on attending the game, keep in mind that the scheduled start time is 6:30 p.m. On the field, the Outlaws will send Jason Mackintosh (1-2) to the hill, looking to draw within 5.5 games of the NABL's North division leaders, the Edmonton Capitals.
