Chico Outlaws News Release
(Fullerton, CA) The Orange County Flyers used a game-winning walk-off homerun from right fielder David Harris to get by the Chico Outlaws 6-5 in game one of a double-header on Saturday night at Goodwin Field.
Harris hit his second homerun of the year off Chico reliever Rusty Jones in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand the Outlaws only their eighth loss of the season.
The Outlaws got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the top of the first off Flyers' start Matt Durkin, the reigning GBL Pitcher of the Year. Second baseman Bobby Hill walked with one out and came home on a JJ Sherrill double for the game's first run. Sherrill then plated on a Mikael Jova RBI single to put the Outlaws up 2-0.
Orange County put up two runs of their own in the bottom of the first frame on a two-run homerun blast by third baseman Jimmy Rohan, his second of the year.
In the top of the fourth, Chico plated a two-out run with catcher Mike Rose hit his first triple of the year and came in to score on Ismael Castro's single to put the Outlaws up 3-1.
The Flyers tied it back up at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth when catcher Alex Jamieson scored an unearned run on Steve Boggs RBI single after a throwing error by Outlaws pitcher Javier Ortiz allowed Jamieson to reach second on a fielder's choice.
Two runs came home for the Outlaws in the fifth when Sherrill hit his league-leading tenth homerun of the year, a two-run shot that brought Blake Gailen home after his one-out double. Chico led 5-3 at this point of the game.
Plating a solo run in the fifth on a Sergio Pedroza solo blast, the Flyers closed the gap to 5-4.
Chico used three pitchers in the bottom of the sixth inning as Orange County tied the game at 5-5 on Steve Boggs second RBI single of the game.
That set the stage for the extra-innings walk off homerun by Harris as the game was scheduled for seven innings as part of a doubleheader.
Flyer's reliever Bryan Harris (3-4) got the win with two scoreless innings of relief, while Jones (0-1) took his first loss of the year.
The loss dropped Chico to 23-8, while Orange County got to 13-14 with the win.

The nightcap of the double-header between the Outlaws and Flyers saw veteran Outlaws left-hander Wayne Franklin, making his first start in almost a month, take the hill against rightie Jake Renshaw, making his first start of the year.
Both pitchers looked sharp in the first two innings, with Renshaw only allowing a walk, while Franklin went 1-2-3 in each inning.
The Outlaws struck for three runs in the third inning when Pascual Del Real walked to lead off things. One batter later, Blake Gailen singled to score Del Real. After a walk to Bobby Hill and groundout by Mitch Einertson, Mikael Jova hit a two-RBI double to plate Gailen and Hill.
Orange County got their two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs on three consecutive doubles by Julian Benavidez, Jim Goethals and pinch hitter Derek Perren. Franklin, who improved to 2-1 with the win, pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on one walk and three strikeouts. Justin Segal and David Dinelli also pitched for Chico, with Dinelli picking up the save, his first.
Flyers starter Jake Renshaw (0-1) went five innings and took the loss, allowing all three Chico runs . Mike Koons pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Renshaw.
Outlaws manager Garry Templeton was ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning for arguing a warning call to pitcher Justin Segal about his move to first base. Second baseman Bobby Hill was ejected at the end of the fifth inning as well.
With the win, Chico improved to a league best 24-8, while Orange County fell to 13-17.
The Outlaws and Flyers open up a three game series at Nettleton Stadium on Monday. Game time is 6:35 pm and you can watch the game live on Justin.TV.com.
