Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - The Chico Outlaws rebounded from Monday's error-filled series-opening loss with a perfect night in the field, a four RBI performance by Scott Dragicevich and a solid pitching effort from rookie left-hander Matt Campbell as the Outlaws defeated the Orange County Flyers 8-2 Tuesday night at Nettleton Stadium...the victory evening the three-game series at one win apiece.

Chico used the long ball to jump out to an early lead - after retiring the first two hitters in the bottom of the 1st, Flyers starter Mike Woolery issued back-to-back walks to Craig Kuzmic and Daniel Nava, setting the stage for Dragicevich who drove the first pitch he saw over the center field wall, putting the Outlaws in front 3-0. Orange County climbed back into the contest, scoring a run in the 2nd when Mark Okano doubled and came home on a Buddy Morales single...then in the 3rd Bret Levier led off the inning with a triple to right and scored on a Rich Pohle sacrifice fly, cutting Chico's lead to one.

While Campbell held the Flyers to just two hits over the next three innings, the Outlaws took control of the game in the 5th, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring five times. Three straight singles by Eric Pringle, Steve Boggs and David Pierson put Chico up 4-2...Boggs then scored on a Woolery wild pitch to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Following a walk to Kuzmic, Nava roped an opposite field double down the left field line, plating both Pierson and Kuzmic to push the lead to 7-2 (the hit also extended Nava's current hitting streak to a club record 19 games). Dragicevich followed with a double down the right field line to drive in Nava and put the Outlaws up 8-2. Following a scoreless 6th, Campbell handed the ball to the Chico bullpen...Jesse Oster and Todd Gelatka combined to retire nine consecutive batters to end the game and give the Outlaws their seventh win over Orange County in 13 tries this year.

Campbell (3-0) was the winning pitcher, with Woolery (1-2) taking the loss. Dragicevich finished 2-for-4 on the night to lead Chico's eight hit attack...Pohle and Morales each had two hits to lead Orange County. Tuesday's win improved the Outlaws second half record to 14-19 and overall mark to 39-32...the Flyers dropped to 17-16 in the second half and 36-35 for the year. The rubber match of the series happens Wednesday night, as right-hander Nick Singleton (2-4) gets the start for Chico...Orange County will counter with right-hander Reed Dickert (6-3), one of the top strikeout pitchers in the GBL. Game time is 7:05pm; hear all the action with "The Voice" of the Outlaws, Rory Miller, beginning at 6:35pm on the internet, on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio or 1340 KEWE-AM.
