Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER - The Denver Outlaws announced their pre-season events and 2011 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) schedule today. The pre-season consists of a competitive collegiate and high school double-header as well as an NCAA Division 2 (DII) game. Regular season highlights include the home opener against the Hamilton Nationals (formerly the Toronto Nationals), a heated rivalry game against the Long Island Lizards, and the Outlaws' annual Fireworks Celebration held on July 3. The league also announced during the collegiate draft that there will be two new teams added in 2012, a team in Charlotte, N.C. and Columbus, Ohio. There will also be two additional games added to the 2012 schedule.
The lacrosse festivities at INVESCO Field at Mile High Stadium begin with a double-header featuring four collegiate rivals on Saturday, April 16. First up, the University of Denver Pioneers and the Ohio State University Buckeyes will clash at 3:00 p.m. in a classic matchup of western powers. This matchup is followed by a showdown between the CU Buffs and CSU Rams at 6:00 p.m. Check out both games for $10 (advance ticket) or $12 the day of the game. Group tickets are also available for $8 each if purchased in advance.
On April 23 the pre-season schedule continues with the final games of the Inaugural Littleton Cup. This high school tournament features four of the best teams in Southwest Denver, including Chatfield, Columbine, Heritage and Littleton. Fans will be able to watch both the Third Place game, the Championship and the NCAA DII game between Adams State and Mesa State for just $10 (advance ticket) or $12 (day off).
The MLL regular season begins for the Outlaws with a home opener against the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. One of the most noteworthy games of the season is Saturday, June 25 with the Long Island Lizards coming to town. Payback will be on Denver's mind, as the Lizards ended the Outlaws playoff run with a 16-12 victory in the semifinals.
On Sunday, July 3, the Denver Outlaws will commemorate the country's independence with a game against the Boston Cannons followed by the team's annual fireworks celebration. This event has become a mainstay of the holiday and consistently entertains fans with the biggest close-proximity show in the city. Similar to last year, the fireworks show will be Denver's only post-game fireworks show that evening.
The last home game hosted by the Outlaws at INVESCO Field is on Saturday, July 30, against the Cannons and the regular season wraps up on the road on Saturday, August 13 against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Major League Lacrosse Championships will commence on Saturday, August 27 and continue through Sunday, August 28 in Annapolis, Maryland.
