Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER - It's good to be back home - especially when the Fourth is on your side.
In their first home game of the season, the Outlaws set the tone early and then rallied late to beat the Ohio Machine, 14-12, in a game that had a Star Wars theme in honor of May the Fourth. Denver represented the Rebel Alliance with orange X-Wing Pilot jerseys and Ohio represented the Imperial Storm Troopers with white jerseys.
Denver came out of the gate hot, scoring the first four goals of the game. Eric Law netted goals to start and finish the first quarter and Chris Bocklet scored one in between to put the Outlaws up 3-0 heading into the second quarter.
Bocklet kept the momentum going with a goal early in the second quarter, but the Machine rallied back to get three goals before halftime and limited Denver to only one more in the first half to make it a 5-3 game at the break.
In the third quarter the Machine's attack fired off shots against Outlaw goalie Jesse Schwartzman. Schwartzman made seven saves on the day but the Machine were able to sneak six shots past him in the third quarter. A goal by Ohio's Peter Baum put the Machine up 8-7 late in the third. Ohio attacker Marcus Holman and midfielder Kevin Cooper scored later, pushing the Machine's lead to 11-7 early in the fourth quarter. Both Holman and Cooper finished with hat tricks.
The Outlaws didn't let up and attacked the Ohio defense, scoring five straight goals to pull ahead, 12-11. Ohio netted one of its own to tie the game at 12-12 with five minutes left.
With just over two minutes left, Jeremy Sieverts got around his defender dove across the crease and put one by Ohio's goalie to put Denver up for good. Eric Law netted another goal for good measure. Sieverts and Law both finished with four goals apiece.
The win is Denver's 22nd straight regular-season victory. The Outlaws have not lost a regular-season game since June 23, 2012.
The Outlaws return to action on the road against the Boston Cannons next Saturday, May 10, 4:00 p.m. MDT.
