Chico, CA - The Edmonton Capitals put double digits in the runs column en route to three straight victories earlier this week during their series with the Chico Outlaws, but it was their opponent's turn to pile on the offence on Friday in a 13-5 decision.
The Caps actually held a 5-4 lead on the Outlaws midway through the seventh inning of Friday's game at Nettleton Stadium, but Chico scored four in the bottom half of the inning and five more in the eighth to cruise to the eight-run victory. Edmonton's record fell to 26-16 with their second consecutive defeat.
Third baseman Carlos Duncan continued his stellar hitting this series, going 3-for-4 on Friday and driving in a run. Left fielder Todd Linden had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI, while catcher Nick Valdez also had two hits and drove in a run. Pitchers Alexander Francisco, Brandon Villafuerte and David Davidson each struggled with Chico's hitters, though the Caps committed four errors in the game to contribute to the loss.
First baseman Brian McFall and right fielder Jake Rife did the majority of the offensive damage for the Outlaws, as McFall hit a home run, scored three runs and had three RBI, while Rife had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Chico pitcher Jason Stevenson struck out 11 Caps and gave up four earned runs through eight innings to earn the victory.
The Caps and Outlaws have two games remaining to wrap up their lengthy nine-game series, to be played Saturday and Sunday at 8:05 p.m. MT. Edmonton then plays three games in Calgary against the Vipers July 12-14.
