Chico Outlaws News Release

RENO, NV - In a rare Golden Baseball League match-up of veteran pitchers, Chico's Greg Bicknell outdueled Dusty Bergman of Reno and the Outlaws withstood a late inning charge to edge the Silver Sox 3-2 Sunday at Peccole Park of the University of Nevada, Reno campus...Chico gaining a split of the two-game weekend series and of their six game road trip.

The Outlaws got on the board first with a run in the 2nd - Daniel Nava led off the inning with a walk but was picked off first...Nava, though, slipped through the subsequent rundown and made it safely to second base. Scott Dragicevich then singled Nava home to give Chico a 1-0 lead. Jesse Kovacs delivered a two-out double to plate Tyler Dean in the 3rd inning, then in the 6th Dragicevich came through again...his single to right plated Craig Kuzmic to put the Outlaws up 3-0. Bicknell, meanwhile, kept Reno's offense in check - at one point retiring 11 straight Silver Sox batters.

Reno finally struck for a run in the 7th inning when Adam Amar doubled with two outs and came home two batters later on a Chuck Sindlinger single. The Silver Sox came right back in the 8th and threatened to tie the game, but Chico came up with a huge defensive play - with runners at second and third, Juan Senreiso smashed a line drive to center; Dean made a diving grab for the ball, but it glanced off his glove on the track...while Josh McLeon scored easily on the play to cut the Outlaws lead to one, Victor Hall was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second thanks to a pair of perfect relay throws from Nava and Eric Pringle. Bicknell then struck out Kane Simmons to end the threat; Chico still holding on to the lead. Todd Gelatka came in from the Outlaws bullpen to close it out...Reno got the tying run to second base with one out, but Gelatka got Sindlinger to ground out and Sam Walker to pop up to Pringle at second to end the ballgame and give Chico its 12th win over the Silver Sox in 21 tries this year.

Bicknell (1-1) allowed just six hits and struck out nine in his eight innings of work to earn the victory, with Gelatka picking up his 16th save of the season...Bergman (5-4) went the distance but was saddled with the hard-luck loss. Dragicevich and Dean each had two hits to lead the Outlaws seven hit attack...Amar had three of Reno's six hits on the evening. Sunday's loss upped Chico's second half record to 13-18 and overall mark to 38-31...the Silver Sox drop to 11-20 in the second half and 29-39 on the year. The Outlaws return home Monday to open their final homestand of the regular season with the first of three against the Orange County Flyers...left-hander Derrick Loop (8-4) will get the start for Chico in the series opener, with lefty Daniel Arizmendi (3-4) expected to be on the mound for Orange County Game time is 7:05pm; hear all the action with "The Voice" of the Outlaws, Rory Miller, beginning at 6:35pm on the internet or on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio.
