Chico Outlaws News Release

ST. GEORGE, UT - The St. George Roadrunners jumped out to an early 7-1 lead and responded to every Chico challenge the rest of the way to post a convincing 12-7 win over the Outlaws Friday night at Bruce Hurst Field in St. George, Utah. The Roadrunners handed Chico their sixth straight defeat and seventh consecutive road loss.

It was actually the Outlaws who got on the board first, scoring a run in the opening frame when Jesse Kovacs came home on a Julian Benavidez single...but in the bottom of the 1st St. George went up 2-1 when Brandon Taylor homered with a man aboard. In the 2nd the Roadrunners went up 3-1 when Cody Nowlin led off with a home run...a Chico error and an RBI single by Claudio Arias later in the inning made the score 5-1. Juan Serrano doubled home Seth Loman and Liu Rodriguez in the 3rd to put St. George up 7-1. Benavidez led off the Outlaws 4th inning with a home run...Shane Cronin would later score on a Roadrunners error to make in 7-3. St. George got one of those runs back in their half of the 4th - Taylor scoring way from first when Casey Garrison misplayed a single by Arias and let the ball roll all the way to the wall. Chico made the score 8-4 with a run in the 5th - Jose Valdez led off the inning with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch by St. George reliever Billy Simon.

The Roadrunners effectively put the game away with three runs in the 6th off Outlaws starter Beau Hintz...and in the 8th went up 12-4 when Arias reached on a wild pitch third strike and eventually came home on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Loman. Chico made the score a little more respectable by plating three runs in the 9th off former Outlaw John Segovia - Kovacs providing the big blow with a two-run homer to center - but Segovia struck out Lino Garcia to end the game and give St. George their second straight win and third in the last four games.

Simon (3-4) was credited with the victory for the Roadrunners, with Segovia notching his first save of the season...Hintz (0-1) gave up seven earned runs and 10 hits in five-and-two-thirds innings to take the loss. Both Chico and St. George had 13 hits on the night - Garrison and Benavidez both went 3-for-5 to lead the Outlaws, while Arias had three hits to pace the Roadrunners. Friday's loss dropped Chico to 9-21 on the season, while St. George improved to 14-16 for the year. The Outlaws try to avoid the sweep Saturday by sending right-hander Greg Bicknell (1-1) to the mound in the series finale...the Roadrunners are expected to start lefty Devin Collis (2-1). First pitch is 6:05pm Pacific time...hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play on ESPN Radio 101.7 FM and AM 1340; the game can also be heard on-line at www.ChicoOutlawsBaseball.com.
