
Outlaws Announce Final 23-Man Roster

DENVER - The Denver Outlaws Lacrosse Team has named their final 23-man roster heading into the season opener this Saturday (May 16) at 7:00 p.m. The bulk of the team's 2008 core players return, which totals 17 from a squad that advanced to last season's Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Championship Game. Key returners include attackmen Matt Brown (Denver) and Brendan Mundorf (Maryland), midfielder Brian Langtry (Hofstra), defenseman Lee Zink (Maryland) and goalie Jesse Schwartzman (Johns Hopkins). Four University of Denver grads (up from three) have also now made the roster, carrying on the team's local influence.
University of Denver players on the squad include Brown, defenseman Tom Ethington, midfielder Adam Goodwin and attackman Ryan Zordani.
The Outlaws will welcome three already well-known stars onto the field for the first time this Saturday as well. Midfielders Greg Downing (Fairfield), Kyle Harrison (Johns Hopkins) and defenseman Eric Martin (Salisbury State) will add depth to an already stacked roster which now consists of seven players who made the 2008 Western Conference All-Star squad.
Downing was a three-time All-American with Fairfield University and was drafted in the 1st round (6th overall) of the 2007 MLL Collegiate Draft by the Los Angeles Riptide. Last season with the Riptide Downing posted 23 points off of 19 goals and four assists in 12 games.
Harrison, also a three-time All-American as well as a three-time MLL All-Star, became a household name amongst lacrosse fans when he led the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays to an NCAA championship in 2005. That year he was awarded the Tewaaraton Trophy, collegiate lacrosse's top accolade. Harrison was also a member of the 2006 US Men's National Team and is a top prospect for the 2010 team as well. Over the course of his four-year MLL career he has scored 55 goals (two 2pt goals) and recorded 45 assists for 100 career points.
Martin is a five year MLL veteran and had stints in Rochester and San Francisco before coming to the Outlaws. The San Francisco, Calif. native has appeared in 57 career games and two All-Star Games (2007 & 2008). Known as a gritty defenseman, Martin has recorded 47.5 penalty minutes and registered 27 points (14 goals, three 2-point goals and six assists) through his time in the league. He also had a successful collegiate career and was named an All-American twice, in addition to earning Division III National Player of the Year honors in 2004.
The Denver Outlaws kick off their season in five days when they take on the Chicago Machine at INVESCO Field on Saturday, May 16 (7:00 p.m.).
