
OurSports Central announces AFL Players of the Week

June 23, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
San Jose SaberCats quarterback Mark Grieb, Philadelphia Soul defensive back Eddie Moten and Grand Rapids Rampage kicker Brian Gowins were named the OurSports Central Arena Football League Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for week seventeen of the AFL season.
Grieb was 27-36 (75%) for 354 yards and nine touchdown passes in the SaberCats' 68-62 victory over the Georgia Force.
Moten had two interceptions, one returned 52 yards for a touchdown, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and two tackles in the Soul's 59-30 victory over the New York Dragons.
Gowins went 11-11 on extra points, 3-3 on field goals (24,18 and 20-yards) and added six touchbacks on kickoffs in the Rampage's 86-70 victory over the New Orleans VooDoo.
Other players considered for Offensive honors were Philadelphia Soul QB Matt D'Orazio, Georgia Force WR Carl Morris, San Jose WR Cleannord Saintil, Cleveland QB Raymond Philyaw and Grand Rapids QB James MacPherson.
Others considered for Defensive award were Colorado DB Rashad Floyd, Tampa Bay DB Traco Rachel, San Jose DB Clevan Thomas, Grand Rapids DB William Haith and Philadelphia LB Rod Davis.
Other players considered for Special Team honors included Philadelphia's Connor Hughes (7-7 on extra points and a 34-yard field goal), Cleveland's Jason Ball (5-6 on extra points, 2-2 on field goals 18 and 26-yards, and three touchbacks on kickoffs), Colorado's Deric Yaussi (7-7 on extra points and a 26-yard field goal), New Orleans Jeremiah Pope (six returns for 145 yards), and Los Angeles Timon Marshall (nine returns for 210 yards).
