Otters to Wrap Up First Half

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League complete the opening half of the season with three games in three days this weekend. The closing stretch begins with two road games, Thursday in Saginaw against the Spirit followed by a Friday game in London against the Knights.

Both games can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company). Thursday's game starts with the pre-game show at 6:55 p.m. Friday's game gets underway with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday the Otters return home to meet the Kingston Frontenacs at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena. The first 2,500 fans into the game receive a free taco courtesy of Taco Bell. In addition, make a donation to Toys for Tots or the City Mission and receive two free tickets to the Otters game on January 2nd (limit two tickets per person) and all children 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult courtesy of WICU. The Otters enter weekend action in the midst of a three-game winning streak to move to 7-20-2-1 on the season. Erie completed their first perfect weekend of the season Saturday at the Tullio Arena with a 4-2 win over London. Justin Hodgman paced the Otters attack with a goal and three assists following a career-high five-point performance one night earlier in a 7-5 victory over Sarnia. For his efforts, Hodgman, who is in the midst of an eight-game scoring streak (7-11-18) and a five-game goal-scoring streak (six goals), was named the CHL and OHL Player-of-the-Week as he increased his team leading scoring totals to 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 28 games.

Zack Torquato (pictured) and Sean Jones also extended their point-scoring streaks to eight games in the back-to-back wins. Torquato has six goals and seven assists during his streak while Jones has registered five goals and six assists.

Saginaw enters weekend action with an 11-14-3-1 record and winless in their last four (0-3-1-0). Jack Combs is the leading scorer for the Spirit with 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in 29 games. Ryan McDonough's 21 goals in 27 games is tops among Saginaw players.

London is 19-10-1-2 on the season and winless in their last two games (0-1-1-0). Patrick Maroon leads the Knights in scoring with 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points in 30 games. The highest scoring rookie in the OHL is in the midst of a six-game point-scoring streak in which he has collected two goals and 10 assists.

The Frontenacs head into weekend action sporting an 8-18-0-1 (and losers of two straight) record prior to a home game against Brampton on Friday. Kingston signaled their rebuilding intentions last week when they dealt Cory Emmerton, their leading scorer and captain, to the Battalion. In return the Frontenacs received forwards Justin Levac and Thomas Middup and five picks (including second rounders in 2008 and 2009). The deal left Nathan Moon as the club's leading scorer. The second year center is well on his way to bettering his rookie offensive totals with 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 27 games.
