
Otters to Select Fourth in CHL ImportDraft

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League will take part in the 2008 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft being held tomorrow (Thursday) via the Internet and conference call beginning at 9 a.m. All 60 CHL member teams (from the OHL, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) are eligible to take part in the two-round selection process of all Import Players who were born in 1989, 1990 and 1991, and not already on a CHL member team's protected list. The Otters are scheduled to select fourth (at approximately 9:45 a.m.) and 64th. Erie will likely either trade or pass on their second round pick. Member teams are only permitted two Import Players on their roster and standout Slovakian goaltender Jaroslav Janus (selected second overall in the 2007 CHL Import Draft) already occupies one spot. The Sudbury Wolves own the first overall pick in the Draft followed by the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League.
The sixth annual Erie Otters Champions for Education Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 25th at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The noon shotgun tournament offers golfers an opportunity to play a round with a member of the Otters (current or alumni) on one of Erie's most challenging and picturesque 18-hole courses. The benefactors of the Tournament are The March of Dimes and the Erie Otters Education Fund, which supports The Brad Boyes Scholarship, awarded annually to a local male high school athlete who excels on and off the playing field. The Fund also assists in the educational needs of former members of the Otters following their OHL careers. Registration for the tourney is $150 per player and includes golf with cart, lunch, snacks and beverages on the course, dinner following golf, prizes and much, much more.
