Evansville Otters News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN – Jeremy Lewis threw seven brilliant innings and Amad Stephens pitched 1 2/3 innings for his second save as the Evansville Otters beat the Florence Freedom 6-5.

The Otters (2-0) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth when Cole Hilt hit his first homerun of the season, a solo shot to give the Otters a 1-0 lead. Florence would tie the game with a single run in the seventh.

The Otters broke open the game in the bottom half of the seventh with five runs, highlighted by Chris Julo's first professional homer. With a 6-1 lead, the game looked in hand. However, the Freedom loaded the bases off of Evansville reliever Scott White with no outs. After White struck out Justin Rahschulte, Jeremy Ison made it a one run game with one swing of the bat, hitting a grand slam.

The Otters, not wanting to let the game slip called on closer Amad Stephens, who pitched the final inning-and-two-thirds for his second save. Stephens save was his 13th in an Otters uniform, moving him into a second place tie with B. J. Richter in the Otters all-time list.

Jeremy Lewis got the win allowing just five hits and one run over seven innings. The loss went to Nick Rowland who allowed all five Otter runs in the seventh.

Grant Williams makes his Otter debut in the series finale on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. The 2003 Frontier League All-Star was 9-9 last season and was acquired in an off-season trade for fellow All-Star, Jason Radwan. He will be opposed by Lenny Bays who was 6-11 last season for Mid-Missouri. Sunday is Market Realty night with the Otters.
