Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League will be presented with three more chances to break out of their current slump this weekend with three games in four days.
The action begins Thursday (tomorrow) with the annual Thanksgiving Day Game against the Belleville Bulls at 7:30 p.m. at the Tullio Arena presented by the Erie Times News.
Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations, by visiting the Civic Center Box Office, on line-at www.ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
The Otters (3-17-1-1) enter weekend action in the midst of a franchise-record 16-game losing streak (0-14-1-1) and a six-game home losing streak. The streaks were extended Saturday when Erie dropped a 3-1 decision to the Saginaw Spirit here at the Tullio Arena.
Kelly Geoffrey netted the lone Otters goal during a first-period power play. The man advantage unit fizzled after Geoffrey's goal (his fourth of the season), finishing the evening one-for-10. Justin Hodgman registered an assist on the Otters lone goal to increase his team-leading point total to 25 on nine goals and 16 assists.
The Bulls enter weekend action as the top team in the Eastern Conference with a record of 14-5-1-1 and coming of a 3-1 win over the Guelph Storm on home ice.
Shawn Matthias is Belleville's leading scorer with 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points in 21 games. After registering 78 points last season, the fourth year veteran is easily on pace to set career highs in all offensive categories. His 28 assists are tied for third most in the OHL and his 41 points rank tied for fourth. Eric Tangradi, captain Matt Beleskey, Bryan Cameron and P.K. Subban have all averaged more than a point-per-game so far this season. Tangradi's 15 goals lead the Bulls and are tied for the ninth most in the OHL.
The Otters continue a busy week of action Saturday night at the Tullio Arena when the Kitchener Rangers visit for a 7:30 p.m. It's BOB-FM Night with free admission to all Bobs, Roberts and Robertas.
