Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors have another pair of home games this weekend. They will host the Barrie Colts at the Hershey Centre on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the Erie Otters on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The tilt with the Colts on Friday night represents the front-end of a home-and-home series as the Majors will also visit Barrie on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. These Central Division rivals have faced off once this year, with the Majors winning 5-1 in Mississauga on October 26. Prior to that game, St. Mike's had been snakebitten against the Colts, going nearly two years without beating them.
Latvian sniper Kaspars Daugavins and rookie forward Casey Cizikas have ignited the Majors offence as of late. Daugavins collected 8 points last weekend and now sits atop the team with 28. Cizikas notched 3 points last weekend and was named the second star in the 3-2 Majors win in Sudbury on Sunday.
The Majors offence should also get a boost from the return of veteran forward Matt Caria, who has been on injured reserve for over a month. He has collected 10 points in 5 games this season.
Barrie has been hot lately, winning their last three games and going 7-3-0-0 over their past ten outings to sit atop the Central Division with 29 points. Their key contributors all season have been goaltender Andrew Perugini (2.80 goals-against-average, 0.926 save percentage) and veteran forward Vladimir Nikiforov (37 points).
The Otters team that the Majors challenge on Sunday has been struggling this year, with only three wins to show for their efforts. However, they'll be hungry for revenge after getting beaten 4-2 by the Majors in Erie on October 20. One of their go-to players has quickly become Ryan O'Reilly, the top pick in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection, who has 17 points in 21 games.
Friday's game will be sponsored by Aaron's Sales & Lease. They will be running a "Best Seats in the House" promotion and their mascot, Lucky The Dog, will be on-hand. Then, Dog Day will be taking place during Sunday's contest. Once again, man's best friend will get in for free and the canine judged to be "best dressed" in Majors gear will win a prize! A registration form can be found on the Majors web site, www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
Majors tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office two hours prior to the puck drop on game-days or during regular business hours or by logging on to the Majors web site.
