Otters partner up for benefit

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League announced tonight that the Jason Baird Benefit held at the Warner Theatre raised $30,000 that will go toward Baird's mounting medical costs. A sold out crowd was on hand for the event that featured silent and live auctions and a meet and greet with former members of the Otters. Baird, a member of the Otters from 1997-2001, suffered severe burns to more than 60 percent of his body in a landscaping accident July 17th in Austintown, Ohio. The 27 year-old from Cayuga, Ontario is receiving treatment at the Akron Burn Center. The benefit featured National Hockey League players and Otters Alumni Members Mike Rupp (New Jersey Devils), Tim Connolly (Buffalo Sabres) and Steve Valiquette (New York Rangers), former Otters goaltender Adam Munro, former Otters captain Colin Pepperall, Ontario Hockey League Commissioner and Canadian Hockey League President David Branch, current members of the Otters and member of the Otters staff.
