The Otters 10th Anniversary Home Opener takes place nine years to the day of the first ever Otters home game played September 29, 1996 against the Detroit Whalers. The Whalers have since transferred to Plymouth and will provide the opposition Thursday night at the Tullio Arena.
The Otters head in to their home opener with a 1-1 record after splitting a pair of games on the road in Northern Ontario. Erie opened the 2005-2006 OHL Regular Season with a 5-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves followed by a 4-1 setback at the hands of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
The Whalers are 1-0-0-1 to start the season and are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at the hands of the Sarnia Sting on Saturday.
The game can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. Don't miss the Otters Free Pre-Game Home Opener Party being held at the Tullio Arena and Jerry Uht Park running from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. There'll be fun for the entire family with live music from the David Stevens Big Band, food and beverages and much more.
The Otters return to action Saturday night at the Tullio Arena when the Saginaw Spirit (2-1) pay a visit for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets for the game are available now at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
The McDonald's Junior Otters Kids Club Sign-Up Party is being held this Sunday (October 2nd) from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the McDonald's Restaurant on Buffalo Road. All members of the Otters are scheduled to be in attendance as well as Shooter, the Otters mascot.
