Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters hit the road to open the 2005-2006 season this weekend when they travel to Northern Ontario for a pair of games. The season opener takes place Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Sudbury against the Wolves. Sunday at 7 p.m. the Otters are in Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Greyhounds. Both games can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company). Friday's game gets underway with the pre-game show at 7:15 p.m. while Saturday's pre-game show is set for 6:45 p.m. The Otters received a boost Wednesday when veteran forward Mike Blunden returned from the Chicago Blackhawks Training Camp. Blunden, selected 43rd overall by the Blackhawks in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft, rejoined the team Wednesday in time for practice at the Tullio Arena. Meanwhile, second year forward Chris Greene is scheduled to rejoin the team today (Thursday) from the Ottawa Senators Training Camp. Greene attended the Camp as an invited player. The Otters appear to be heading into weekend action without the services of Ryan O'Marra and Josh Disher. O'Marra, who was selected 15th overall by the New York Islanders in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and made his Isles debut in a pre-season game Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, remains with the Islanders at their Training Camp. Disher, selected 185th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, is with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.
The Otters 10th Anniversary Home Opener takes place nine years to the day of their very first home game when they face off against the Plymouth Whalers on Thursday, September 29th at the Tullio Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. with 10th Anniversary Pre-game Celebrations scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. Tickets for the game are available now at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
Don't miss the McDonald's Junior Otters Kids Club Sign-Up Party being held Sunday, October 2nd from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the McDonald's Restaurant on Buffalo Road. All members of the Otters are scheduled to be in attendance as well as Shooter, the Otters mascot.
