Otters extend streak to six-in-a-row

The Erie Otters struck for two goals in the opening five minutes of the third to break open a tie game on their way to a 3-2 win over the Guelph Storm in an Ontario Hockey league game played tonight in front of 2,928 at the Tullio Arena. Rob Hisey and Sean O'Connor, with his third in as many games and the eventual game winner, struck for the Otters (7-3-1-1) early in the third. Geoff Platt, with his OHL-leading 14th of the season, tied the game at 1-1 at the end of two. Mark Verteeg-Lytwyn gave the Storm a 1-0 advantage with a first-period goal. Matt D'Agostini made things interesting scoring with 3:07 remaining in regulation to bring the visitors to within one. The Storm (7-6-1) enjoyed a late power play but couldn't strike for the equalizer. Hisey extended his point-scoring streak to 10 games (4-11-15) with his goal while rookie Chris Greene collected an assist to move his point-scoring streak to five games (3-2-5). Ryan O'Marra also had two assists. The win was the Otters sixth straight on home ice to establish a new franchise record. The 1998-99 Otters won five straight home games to start the season. The victory also ended a 10-game winless streak against the Storm. The Storm out shot the Otters 31-28 in the game as Josh Disher posted the victory. The three stars of the game were 1. O'Marra; 2. O'Connor and 3. Guelph defenseman Daniel Girardi, who had two assists.

The Otters return to action with a pair of road games. Friday they travel to Sarnia to face the Sting (4-9-1-1) in a 7:30 p.m. contest. Saturday it's off to London to take on the Knights (12-0-1) at the John Labatt Centre in a 7 p.m. start. Both games can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior ot the opening face-off. The next Otters home game takes place on November 5th when the Toronto St. Michael's Majors (4-5-3-1) visit the Tullio Arena sponsored by Rocket 101. The first 1,000 fans into the game receive a free Erie Otters/Rocket 101 decal.
