Otters extend home win streak to eight

Geoff Platt scored two goals and an assist to lead the Erie Otters to a 3-2 win over the Barrie Colts in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,263 at the Tullio Arena. Mike Blunden scored the other Otters goal while Rob Hisey collected two assists to extend his point-scoring streak to 14 games (7-15-22). Ryan O'Marra also registered an assist to move his point-scoring streak to a career-high seven games (0-8-8). The win was the Otters eighth straight on home ice to match the franchise record. The Otters won eight straight twice on home ice during the 2000-01 season. The Otters are now 10-4-1-1. The attendance figure also set a new franchise standard for a game played prior to Christmas (not including home openers or Thanksgiving games) bettering the 4,973 fans that were on hand to see the Otters and the London Knights on October 12, 2002. Chris Morrison and Hunter Tremblay scored for the Colts, who dropped their third straight to sink to 7-9-1-2 on the season. The Otters led 2-0 after one and 3-1 heading into the third. Barrie scored with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to make things close. Barrie out shot the Otters 33-24 in the game as Josh Disher posted the victory. The three stars of the game were all from the Otters. Platt was the first, Hisey the second and Disher the third.

The Otters return to action with a pair of road games. Thursday they travel to Peterborough to take on the Petes at 7 p.m. Friday it's off to Oshawa to meet the Generals at 7:35 p.m. Both games can be heard live on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and on line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game 15 minutes prior to the opening face off. The next Otters home game takes place Saturday, November 13th when the London Knights make their first visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start presented by the Erie General Electric Credit Union and Molsons. The first 500 children 12 and under into the game receive a free Mike Blunden limited edition lithograph. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
